empty vanilla pod, too good to throw away |
Recently i have been baking a lot, using fresh vanilla pods. Considering the taste and the flavor of fresh vanilla, i will never-ever go back to use the artificial stuff. Not only because of the taste and the flavor but also because i know that I don't want any chemicals in my food, if I can avoid it. So I am quite glad to always have vanilla available (just ordered a new batch online).
But what to do once you scrapped the beans out of the pod? Don't just throw away the pod. The empty pod actually is still having a lot of the vanilla magic left inside, the vanillin, why not extract that as well (as the pods already are not that cheap anyway)? I like to make my own vanilla extract and its rather easy. Just follow the pictures below and enjoy your own self made vanilla extract.
