Hummus or what can I make with a chickpea?

Another great dish that I brought back from my times back in north Africa is Hummus. Hummus is maybe comparable to the peanut butter in the US, but it’s just simply much better, more healthy, less fat and really delicious. It’s a food dip or spread made with chickpeas and sesame. I Just love to spread it on a bread, maybe just add a slice of tomato or two. But it’s also very delicious to use it as a sauce or a dip when you are eating a good piece of meat, sausage or simply eat it with some fresh veggies or with a tomato. There are no limits to this, try this easy recipe yourself, discover new ideas on how to eat it and don’t miss out and telling me about it.

Here is the recipe:
  • 150 g dried = 380 g cooked chickpeas
  • 2 EL extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 EL lemon juice (grated lemon skin of half a lemon)
  • 3 cloves and garlic
  • 4 table spoons of Tahina (if you don’t have, work with sesame powder instead)
  • Season off with
  • Cumming
  • Salt
  • Paprika powder
  • Tumeric
Soak the dried chickpeas in water over night. Then cook the chickpeas, using 3 times as much water as the weight for chickpeas. Get the chickpeas out of the water but don’t waste the water yet, you might need it still a bit later. Now you simply put everything in your kitchen blender and blend it up. If its not smooth enough or if the consistency is too chunky and too hard, then please add some more of the oil and / or the water until the consistency of the hummus is smooth and easy to spread. Now put it in the fridge for a while and when its nice and cold - Done.
